17 September: Overnight Flight


18 September: Frankfurt, Germany - Tour Begins

Welcome to Germany! Upon arrival, you’ll be transported to your Langen-area hotel. Join your tour guides for a lively dinner at your hotel, where you’ll get to know your fellow group members.


19 September: Frankfurt - Ruedesheim - St. Goar - Frankfurt

Travel to Ruedesheim, to catch a Koeln-Dusseldorfer boat for a scenic cruise to nearby St. Goar. You’ll have time at leisure in this quaint town, famous as one of the best places to shop for cuckoo clocks, beer steins, and clogs! Lunch on your own as you cruise back to Ruedesheim. You’ll then have time to explore this winemaking town, and enjoy dinner on your own, before returning to your hotel.


20 September: Frankfurt - Mannheim - Heidelberg - Rottenburg am Neckar

Your choice of activities today! Jens will lead a group for a tour of the John Deere factory in Mannheim, while Judy leads a group to Heidelberg for a walking tour of the Old Town and Heidelberg Castle, of Student Prince fame. After the groups come together again, it’s on to Rottenburg am Neckar for one of the exclusive highlights of the tour - your home stay experience in the Rottenburg area.


21 September: Rottenburg - Burg Hohenzollern - Tuebingen

A scenic day! Travel to Hechingen for a tour of Burg Hohenzollern. Situated high atop Mount Hohenzollern, the castle is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is home to several important historical Prussian artifacts. Enjoy lunch at the Burg before traveling on to Tuebingen, for “Stockerkahnfahrt”, a charming Bavarian-style boat ride, on the Neckar River. Dinner will be on your own this evening, before the host families arrive to pick you up in Tuebingen.


22 September: Rottenburg

This morning, meet up with your group in Old Rottenburg, for a walking tour of this quintessential German town, with a variety of architectural styles and sites. You’ll enjoy lunch on your own, followed by an afternoon at leisure, to explore the town.


23 September: Rottenburg

A full day at leisure, to spend time with your host family, or join Jens for a hike to the hilltop chapel in Wuermlingen.


24 September: Rottenburg - Black Forest - Villingen

Say goodbye to your host family as you gather again as a group for a journey into the legendary Black Forest. Stop for lunch in the popular German resort town of Freudenstadt, then continue on to the Gutach Valley and a visit to the Black Forest Open Air Museum, and a tour of the Vogtsbauernhof farmhouse, dating from 1612. Enjoy an evening meal on your own at any of the Museum’s six fully furnished farmhouses, and other charming historic structures, before traveling on to our stop for the evening, Villingen.


25 September: Villingen - Triberg - Black Forest - Villingen

Gathering at the old Franciscan church, enjoy a walking tour of Villingen, once known as “the greatest watch city in the world” for the quality of their locally made timepieces. After lunch on your own, you’ll travel to Triberg, Germany’s cuckoo clock capital and home to one of Germany’s highest waterfalls. Time on your own to shop for souvenirs and explore before returning to your Villingen hotel.


26 September: Villingen - Schloss Meersberg - Rheinfall - Villingen

Spectacular scenery today! Travel to Schloss Meersberg, the oldest inhabited castle in Germany. After your tour, enjoy a light lunch in the castle cafe, overlooking Lake Constance, Germany’s largest lake. This afternoon, travel into Switzerland for a visit to Rheinfall, the largest waterfall in the country. Enjoy dinner overlooking the falls before traveling back to Villingen.


27 September: Villingen - Birnau - Schwangau - Schoenau on Koenigsee

Depart Villingen after breakfast, traveling first to Birnau, a beautiful Baroque church overlooking Lake Constance. Admire the Alpine vistas along the way to our next stop, the Hotel Ruebeszahl, where we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch while admiring the stunning views of “Mad Ludwig’s” most famous castle, Neuschwanstein. Continue through the Bavarian Alps to our charming hotel in Schoenau on Koenigsee, our home for the next three nights.


28 September: Schoenau on Koenigsee

Enjoy a morning boat trip on the Koenigsee to St. Bartholomae, one of the most photographed churches in the country, and one a hunting retreat for Bavarian kings. After lunch with the group, return to Schoenau, where the rest of day is yours to enjoy at leisure.


29 September: Schoenau on Koenigsee - Salzburg - Schoenau on Koenigsee

Travel to beautiful Salzburg, Austria, where you’ll enjoy a “Sound of Music” tour of some of the famous movie’s most familiar sites. But Salzburg is more than the Sound of Music - it’s the birthplace of Mozart! After lunch with the group, explore more of this lovely place on your own before returning to Schoenau.


30 September: Schoenau on Koenigsee - Munich - Oktoberfest

Early departure from Schoenau to make the most of our time in Bavaria’s capital, Munich! After a stop at our Munich area hotel, we’ll travel to downtown Munich, where Jens will lead a walking tour of the Old City. Enjoy lunch at the world-famous Hofbrauhaus, in the heart of the Old City, before an afternoon at Oktoberfest! Enjoy the festivities before an evening return to your hotel.


1 October: Munich

A full day at leisure in this lively city! Perhaps return to downtown Munich, explore the area around our hotel, or consider joining Jens for a visit to the infamous Dachau Concentration Camp. Be sure to save time to pack for your return flights before one last dinner with your group, as you say farewell to Jens and Judy, and your wonderful tour of Bavaria!


2 October: Return to the U.S.

Transfer to the Munich Airport for your flights home.
